Water mites belong to the superfamily Hydrachnidia within the class Arachnida. A very common genus is:

Genus: ArrenurusExample Species: Arrenurus globator (common European/North American water mite)

In the context of your game blood, we can canonize:

Species: Arrenurus globatorOrder: TrombidiformesFamily: Arrenuridae

💀 Game Lore Entry: Water Mite (Arrenurus globator)

Role: Parasite / Drainer / TrackerLocation: Submerged surfaces, low-oxygen wall puddles, larval zones

“You never see the first one. But by the time you molt, it’s not alone.”

The water mite, Arrenurus globator, is a tiny aquatic arachnid that thrives in stagnant, debris-filled pools — especially those hidden within walls, behind pipes, and under layers of fungal bloom. In blood, it functions as a stealth parasite, latching onto mosquito larvae and pupae, draining them of nutrients while remaining undetected.

They are especially dangerous to newly hatched mosquitoes, often attaching just after emergence when the skin is still soft. Their hooked legs and piercing mouthparts embed deep into the host, making them hard to remove without molting — which itself becomes dangerous if too many mites are present.

Even in adulthood, careless landings near infested puddles can result in mites clinging to joints or wings, slowing the mosquito down during critical feeding attempts or escapes.

🎮 Gameplay Mechanics Summary

  • Threat Level: Moderate to High (especially in larval and pupal stages)

  • Behavior:

    • Passive until triggered by proximity

    • Latches silently; no combat animation

    • Drains stamina and accelerates aging

  • Signs of Infection:

    • Visual distortions (blurred field of view)

    • Sluggish controls

    • Reduced reaction time in QTEs

  • Removal Options:

    • Forced molt

    • Lure into acidic fungal patch

    • Use rare grooming animation while idle (costs time)

  • Advanced Threat:

    • Multiple mites form a cluster infestation

    • Clustered mites can release pheromones that alert predators to your location
