Flea

Terrestrial Competition

🪰 Flea Summary for blood and brood

Scientific Name: Siphonaptera spp.Fleas are hyper-adapted, blood-feeding parasites that move with explosive precision. Though tiny in size, they possess massive strength relative to their mass, launching themselves over 100 times their body length using specialized pads of elastic protein (resilin) that store energy like a spring. In the harsh world of blood and brood, fleas are both threat and opportunity—they can siphon blood from the same hosts the player needs, introducing direct competition for resources. However, they also serve as high-speed couriers of parasites, jumping from host to host, spreading infection unintentionally—or through manipulation.

🎮 Mini-Game Concept: “Flea Ride”

Scenario:The player (as a mosquito larva or parasite) enters a dormant flea in a host’s fur or bedding. From within, they must time jumps, balance internal infection, or even control the flea momentarily to reach new hosts across long distances. Think:

  • Rhythm + timing-based controls (charging and releasing the flea’s jump)

  • Obstacle avoidance (webs, water, heat)

  • Parasitic steering (alter its muscle twitch patterns)

Goal:Use the flea's powerful leap to hitch a ride or spread infection across large areas of the level otherwise unreachable by flying.
