Brown-banded Cockroach
Tank NPC
In Blood and Brood, Supella longipalpa (the brown-banded cockroach) is an ambient, NPC that plays a crucial role in the spatial dynamics of the game world. Unlike active predators, this cockroach is territorial and defensive, treating narrow wall paths and dark recesses as its domain. If the player mosquito crosses these cockroach-claimed routes, especially during peak activity periods.
The Supella will deliberately block, body-check, or ram the intruder, disrupting flight paths or knocking the player into environmental hazards. While it doesn’t chase or hunt, its presence turns otherwise safe corridors into high-risk choke points. As the player learns the cockroach’s patrol rhythms, they can choose to time their movements, bait it away, or use it as a distraction for predators like centipedes, exploiting the ecosystem’s natural friction. It embodies the game’s theme of homeostasis as not every threat seeks to kill you, but all life defends its place
